President Shimon Peres hosted an official welcome ceremony for the President of Bulgaria, Mr. Rosen Plevneliev and the two conducted a work meeting,.

President Plevneliev to President Peres:

Bulgaria will strengthen the cooperation on security and diplomacy with Israel – Bulgaria sees Israel as a strategic ally

President Peres to President Plevneliev

Your visit to Jerusalem will strengthen the relations between Israel and Bulgaria which is the best answer to the terror and to the extremists in the Middle East.

Brussels, 22 October 2012 – Catherine Ashton, the European Union's High Representative for  Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the Commission, is in Jordan today for the first leg of a five-day visit to the Middle East. On Monday 22 October, she will meet with King Abdullah II and Jordanian Foreign Minister Judeh in Amman. She will also visit the Zaatary.

Remarks by Ambassador Susan E. Rice, U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, at the Security Council Open Debate on the Middle East, October 15, 2012

Thank you, Mr. President, and thank you, Under-Secretary-General Feltman, for your briefing.

I'll begin with Syria, where the horrifying situation is getting worse. Escalating violence, driven by the Asad regime, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions of Syrians. And there's no clearer demonstration of the situation's threat to regional peace and security than the Syrian government's recent shelling of Ackakale, which this Council rightfully condemned. As the violence and atrocities mount, the United States will not wait for all members of this Council to get on the right side of history. Together with our allies, we're supporting the opposition as it moves toward an inclusive, democratic transition. We're further pressuring the regime, and we are addressing the growing humanitarian needs in the region. At the same time, we continue to support the efforts of Joint Special Representative Brahimi to find a durable solution to this crisis.

Egyptian Ambassador to President Peres:

I came with the message of peace. We are committed to all the agreements we signed with Israel and we are also committed to the peace treaty with Israel.

Jordanian Ambassador to President Peres:

The foremost priority in our foreign policy still remains the peace process and achieving peace between all neighboring countries including the establishment of an independent sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with the State of Israel

President Peres to the Egyptian Ambassador:

"I wish to convey to President Morsi my very best wishes for his success, for the success of Egypt and for the success of the Middle East."

However, the official reception to celebrate the dates in Israel was held back by the Chilean Embassy to accommodate the arrival of the 21 sail navy ship to the Port of Haifa, giving everyone an opportunity to share the experience of visiting the Latin American country's vessel as well as an important part of its culture. For this purpose, the ship remained open for public visits during its stay in Haifa. The Esmeralda Training Ship is used by the Chilean Navy to enhance professional training of its future officers and Non Commissioned Officers; it has sailed 30 thousand nautical miles for nearly 9 months and will conclude its second tour around the world in January of 2013.
